My Case of Study: Nicole
Age: 8 years old.
Introduction
I would like to start this blog by saying
that human beings are different, cognitively, physically, even
socio-emotionally. My case of study, Nicole, is not an exception. According to
what psychologists say, all of us respond differently one of others. People
have different capacity and ability to retain information and memorizing. It is
curious how people deal with intelligence. In fact, people almost have
significant differences on emotional system. When we look at the sensory and
the motor systems in our body, this helps us to deal with our environment and
to interact not only inside the environment but also with others as well. In
this way, children learn how adapt their thinking and acting with the social
and physical environment. When we talk about mind and body, it is important to
talk about emotions and reasoning. Therefore, when we deal with emotional
disorders or emotional problems, we also deal with cognition. That is why we
wonder, when does the generic interfere? At this point we can say that the
closer to people are generically; the closer they are in terms of appearance,
in terms of behavior, and emotions. What genetics are actually doing is that genetics
go through our brain to get some tracks and those tracks become systems and the
systems deal with our environment. Thinking about systems, such as the sensory
systems, vision, hearing, and tactile systems, we think about motor skills and
movements in order to get food and move from one place to the other. They are
different systems that help us to interact with the environment and be part of
the environment.
I jump it out in here because taking this
background as a previous knowledge; I can say that my case of study is probably
affected by environment, poor connectedness between feeling of security and
safety, poor freedom of expression.
Socio
Emotional Development
Heredity
or Environment?
Researchers have argued that hormones
account the behavior in boys and girls; boys are more physically aggressive
because of the increased level of testosterone, otherwise, girls are less
physically aggressive. In addition, they argue that hormones affect the visual
spatial and verbal abilities among children. Research has shown that boys are
slightly higher visual spatial abilities while girls have slightly higher
verbal abilities.
Typically there are many environmental
influences that force children to respond. For instance, parents, media,
teachers, friend, even themselves influence in a positively or negatively way
in children.
In this specific case, Nicole lives with
her family, mother, father, and one brother. I could say that Nicole has adapted
the influence of her parents, her mother and father tend to be shy when they
are trying to be part of a social environment, and thereby she has not reached
the higher verbal ability; one factor has affected the other one. Environment
has affected the heredity, according to research.
Poor
connectedness between feeling of security and safety
Because of the influence of her parents’
behavior, Nicole has not found her connection between the feeling of security
and safety. At the age of eight, children try to do things individually, but
her mother still tends to be overprotective. Nicole always shows this
insecurity at the time she is facing with an unknown environment, otherwise, she
feels safe if she is with someone familiar to her. The connection between her
feelings has not been encouraged by the influences of her family. This factor has
not permitted that Nicole feels secure and protected in the world.
Poor
freedom of expression
Children must be able to think at this age,
they openly express their feelings and ask for what they want and need. But
this has not achieved because of her poor contact with the world. The
insecurity is shown in a way she does not express her feelings, for instance,
the way she moves, speaks, even receives a command that has been asked.
In sum, Nicole has acquired what has been learned
by her partners. She imitates what she sees. On the other hand, this is what
psychologists say, “Children are social beings. Most of what our kids do is to
find a place in the family and their world”. The healthy connection between her
and her world is possible if the connectedness between feelings of security and
safety increases, otherwise, she tends to feel afraid of the things they has
and of the place where is.
